Andreas Proimos Scholarship Fund

The Andreas Proimos Scholarship offers $4,000 in scholarships over a four-year period. We select applicants who best demonstrate love of God and the Orthodox Christian Faith through service, scholarship, leadership, and practical citizenship in their church, school, and community. The Andreas Proimos Scholarship seeks to promote Hellenism and Orthodoxy through its members and their families into the greater Community.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  1. To be considered for the scholarship, an applicant must be of Greek Orthodox faith and an active member in good standing at one of the churches below:
    • SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Merrillville, IN
    • St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Hammond, IN
    • St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Schererville, IN
    • St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, South Bend, IN
    • Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Chicago (Hegewisch), IL

  2. Applicants must submit an official letter of good standing from your corresponding church. An active member of good standing is defined as being an active member of GOYA, Sunday School, Greek School, Altar boy, volunteer, or any other church affiliated groups or activities, as well as a fully paid member of one of the above stated churches. 

  3. Applicants must be full time students enrolled in the final year of an accredited high school. Home schooled students should contact the Governance Board for guidance in completing the application.

  4. Applicants must submit a letter of acceptance from the college/school they will be attending.

  5. Applicants must submit a scanned copy of their official 7-semester high school transcript.  Applicants must have a 2.25 GPA or better based on a standard 4.0 system.

  6. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation.
    • A personal letter of recommendation from someone outside of your church community.
    • A letter of recommendation from a member of your church parish.

  7. The date the scholarships will be awarded will be announced to the applicant once they are accepted. Recipients must be present on the day of presentation unless there is an unforeseen reason they cannot attend the scholarship ceremony.

  8. Applicants must submit a photograph of themselves(Can be jpg or png).

  9. To be fair to other applicants, late or incomplete application packages will not be considered and will be ineligible. We recommend you start your application process early. We will adhere strictly to the deadline. Application packages must be submitted electronically via our website no later than deadline date and time CST.

  10. All applicants are required to submit two personal statements.
    • A short essay on how belonging to your Greek Orthodox Church has contributed to your development. (about 500 words)
    • A short essay describing your personal aspirations. (about 250 words)

    Put submitted documents in simple formatting (e.g., spacing) for readability. All will be automatically emailed to our team of scholarship reviewers.

  • Scanned copy/PDF of official 7-semester transcript of high school grades, showing coursework for 8th term

  • Submit a photograph of yourself (png or jpg)

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Two personal statements (essays)

  • Letter of good standing from your church

  • Letter of acceptance from the college/university you plan to attend
